# Download Buildhound

> The usual way in is a coding agent running `npx buildhound`, which installs the CLI and the agent itself. This page is for doing it by hand, and for the one download that is always a person's own, Buildhound for Mac.

## Buildhound for Mac

The menu bar app: what is running on this Mac, pause it, and the settings window. Signed and notarised; it updates itself once installed. The agent runs without it.

- [Buildhound-darwin-arm64.zip](https://dl.buildhound.sh/mac/Buildhound-darwin-arm64.zip): always the newest release. Unzip it into Applications and open it. Apple silicon.
- Every release stays under `mac/v<version>/` on dl.buildhound.sh with a `.sha256` beside it; `mac/latest` names the newest version.

## The CLI

Nothing to install first: `npx buildhound runner add` fetches the CLI and, connecting a machine, downloads the agent for it. The same commands are an MCP server for a coding agent. By hand, step by step: [Set up by hand](https://buildhound.sh/docs/setup-by-hand.md).

## The agent, without the CLI

The agent is what runs jobs on a machine; `runner add` installs and updates it. For setting up by hand, one binary per system, each under `agent/v<version>/` on dl.buildhound.sh with a `.sha256` beside it; `agent/latest` names the newest version.
