Legal
Terms of service
Last updated 8 October 2026
The short version: your machines run your code, and we orchestrate. Public repositories are free, Personal and Team are a flat price per machine, never per minute, and you can leave at any time.
Draft, under legal review and not yet in effect. Highlighted items are details still to be filled in.
Agreement#
These terms are an agreement between you and [legal entity name] (“Buildhound”, “we”) for the Buildhound service: the website, the dashboard, the audit, the command-line tool, the MCP server, the machine agent, the Mac app, the VM images and the control plane.
By installing the GitHub App, connecting a machine or creating an account, you accept these terms. If you accept them for an organisation, you confirm you may bind it.
What Buildhound does#
Buildhound turns machines you own or control into single-use GitHub Actions runners. The machines are your hardware and the jobs are your code. Our part is orchestration, the machine agent and the VM images: registering runners, creating and destroying a virtual machine for each job, and, when your machines cannot take a job, letting new jobs route to the healthy side, GitHub-hosted runners.
The audit reads your workflow history to price your CI and suggest changes. Fix pull requests are proposals; you decide whether to merge them.
Accounts and machines#
- You sign in with GitHub, and keep your GitHub account and the GitHub App installation secure.
- You only connect machines you own or are allowed to use for this purpose. On a team, each person who adds their own laptop to a pool does so by their own choice on that machine.
- You are responsible for what your workflows do and for the secrets you give them.
- Coding agents may set Buildhound up on your behalf. Actions they take with your credentials are your actions; steps that need a person, such as joining a pool or trusting a machine with secrets, stay with you.
Plans and payment#
| Plan | Price | For |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Public repositories on any account, on up to 2 connected machines |
| Personal | $10 per connected machine per month, or $100 per machine per year | Private repositories on a personal GitHub account |
| Team | $20 per connected machine per month, or $200 per machine per year | Private repositories in an organisation |
We never charge by the minute. The plan follows your GitHub account type: a personal account subscribes to Personal, an organisation to Team. Both paid plans get a 14-day trial with unlimited machines before a card is needed. An invoice counts the machines connected at the end of each day, averaged over the period. Payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not store card details. Prices exclude taxes, which are added where required.
Without a subscription or trial, only your public repositories route to your machines; a private repository’s jobs run on GitHub-hosted runners until one is active. We never block a job.
Cancellation and refunds#
You can cancel at any time; a subscription runs to the end of the period you paid for. Refunds follow our refund policy. After cancellation, routing goes back to GitHub-hosted runners and your data is kept for 30 days, then deleted.
Acceptable use#
You agree not to use Buildhound to:
- run jobs on machines you are not allowed to use, or add someone else’s machine to a pool without their consent;
- attack, probe or disrupt Buildhound, GitHub or any other system or network;
- mine cryptocurrency or run workloads unrelated to software development and delivery;
- break GitHub’s terms, the law, or anyone else’s rights.
We may suspend routing for an account that breaks these rules, and will tell you why.
GitHub, Apple and other services#
Buildhound works with GitHub Actions and runs macOS guests on Apple hardware. Your use of GitHub and of macOS remains under their own terms, including Apple’s licence for running macOS in virtual machines on Apple hardware. We are not responsible for outages or changes at GitHub or Apple. When GitHub Actions itself is down, no runner receives jobs, ours included.
Your content and data#
Your code, workflows and results stay yours. You let us process the data described in our privacy policy only to run the service. We do not sell your data and do not use your code to train models.
Security#
Each job runs in a fresh virtual machine that is destroyed afterwards. Some protections have limits: for example, an administrator on a host machine can in principle inspect a virtual machine running on it, which is why jobs that use secrets run only on machines you mark as trusted. Our security page explains what we do and what we cannot promise.
Disclaimers#
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose. Benchmarks and savings estimates describe measured or calculated results; your results will depend on your hardware and workloads.
Limitation of liability#
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost data. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Termination#
You can stop using Buildhound at any time by uninstalling the GitHub App and removing the agent from your machines. We may end the service for an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, with notice where possible.
Trademarks#
Buildhound is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by GitHub or Apple. GitHub and GitHub Actions are trademarks of GitHub, Inc. Apple, Mac, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, macOS, Studio Display and Xcode are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.
Changes and contact#
We will tell you about material changes to these terms by email or in the dashboard at least 30 days before they take effect. Price changes apply to new customers and to existing customers only from their next renewal after notice.
These terms are governed by the laws of [governing law and courts]. Questions: [contact email].
